No matter what I do, or what I try the Mods that load, from the Game Types Window when you first start the game, refuse to work. That includes the wonderful Mods provided for us by talented programmers.

I have version 1.71 of SE5.

What will happen is the game will load the default setting, no matter what game type I use. Sometimes when it will even leave out componenets that I have changed (the one that comes to mind is the Meson Blaster, I renamed it the Meson Disupter.). Does anyone have any ideas what could be wrong? Or how I could fix it?

(Be warned I am posting this in other forums that could help me).

Like that.

That's less of a tree and more of an example path.
What do you have and where is it all?

PS:
If you're using Vista, program files is not a good place to install to; c:\games would work much better.

He means, what do the folders under GameTypes look like..

Well there is the Standard SEV folder, and that has a Mod_Definition.txt, Override_InvConfiguration_Slots.txt and the SE5Logo.

In the Mod I am creating, called "Fleet Battles v .01" and in that file there is ColonyTypes.txt, Components.txt, Facilities.txt, First Version History.txt, Override_InvConfiguration_Slots.txt, Mod_Definition.txt, Readme.txt, TechAreas.txt, and VehicleSizes.txt.

The only ones that I have changed are the ColonyTypes.txt, Components.txt, and TechAreas. I added a new tech area, one new colony type and I changed the name of the "Meson Blaster" to a "Meson Disrupter". Thats it.

Do you need more information?

Are those data files in a data folder in your mod's folder?

The Data files need to be in a Data folder.

GameTypes\
GameTypes\FleetBattles\
GameTypes\FleetBattles\Mod_Definition.txt
GameTypes\FleetBattles\Data\
GameTypes\FleetBattles\Data\Components.txt
etc.


Smarter than your average Texrak.

Oh, so I have to have a Data fold in my mod folder? I will try and report back.

Your mod folder should have subfolders so that it looks the same as the game root.

\data
\savegame
\pictures
etc.
