Sounds like a corrupted bmp file... find the components.txt entry for the research center and find its Pic Num field, then open up the corresponding bitmap in your se4\pictures\components directory in Paint and save it again. Some of the imagemod bmp files were saved in a weird format that SE4 doesn't like but Paint can handle just fine...

It's either caused by creating the file with MS Paint in XP, or with Photoshop (possibly just the 8 and 9 versions). Fun times.
You could just run a batch conversion of everything in the Components folder from bitmap to bitmap with Irfanview, which tends to clear up such issues.

Is it just me or has there been a whole crop of these errors lately?

Thanks, I'll have to give that a try. I've never noticed it before but up until this error I was organic and magic only and never saw this bug.

There are a lot of them in the Facilities Pack at the moment. I can't tell any difference between them in terms of format, so it must be an issue with the programs they were saved in.

Examine them in a text editor; you should see a common pattern in the beginning of the files.

I forgot I already had Irfan when I was conveting other pics a few months ago, but I tried the conversion and it worked well. Thanks again.
